ALEX MORGAN BIO

Morgan was born on July 2, 1989 to Pamela Morgan and Michael Morgan. She was raised by her parents in Diamond Bar, Los Angeles. Morgan played a variety of sports as a kid, but she began playing soccer at the age of 14. She then became a member of the Cypress Elite club team, winning the Coast Soccer League under-16 championship and coming in third place in the bracket for under-19 players. Morgan continued to work at Diamond Bar High School, where she improved her soccer abilities. National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) chose her as an All-American Athlete. In addition, she was a part of the states and regional divisions of the Olympic Development Program (ODP). Morgan continued her career in soccer in UC Berkeley. UC Berkeley. She led the California Golden Bears team's scoring during her first season. The team was able to reach the NCAA Tournament in four years and also to two times to the second round. Morgan was one of four finalist for the Honda Sports Award. This resulted in her being the first Hermann Trophy finalists to be placed in the top spot on the list. Morgan completed her studies in 2010 with the third-highest number of goals and points in Berkeley. Morgan was able to manage soccer careers at the college and national levels during her college education. Morgan suffered an ACL injury during her first year at Berkeley. This prevented her from playing in U.S. women's soccer under 20 until April 2008. She scored her debut international goal in Mexico during the CONCACAF Women's U-20 Championship. Morgan was also a participant in the 2008 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup. She scored four goals, earning her team a gold-medal. One of these was a victory goal over Italy which earned the U.S. team a final spot at the 2011 World Cup. Morgan was the youngest member of the team, and he helped it win against France. Morgan was able to win despite the U.S. losing to Japan in the final World Cup match, became the first American player to score both a goal or assist.
