Naomi Watts

 

Naomi Ellen Watts (born 28 September 1968) is a British actress from the UK. She made her debut in film in Australia in For Love Alone (1986) which was followed by three television series: Hey Dad.. (1990), Brides of Christ (911) and Home and Away (1991) and Flirting (1991). After making the move to the United States, Watts initially struggled as an actress, acting in small-scale film until she starred in David Lynch's psychological thriller Mulholland Drive in 2001 as an aspiring actress. The role was the catalyst for her rise to fame internationally. Watts then portrayed a tortured journalist in the horror remake The Ring (2002). Her portrayal of an emotional mother in Alejandro's 21 Grams (2003) was nominated for an Academy Award. Watts' star power increased when she appeared in I Heart Huckabees (2004). King Kong (2006), Eastern Promises ((2007)) and The International (2009). For her role as Maria Bennett in the disaster film The Impossible (2012), Watts received another Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. She appeared in films, like Birdman (2014) St. Vincent (2014) and While We're Young (2015). Watts kept her acting career going with big-budget roles, such as in Divergent (2015-2016).
