Anita Ekberg
Kerstin Aita
Marianne (Swedish pronunciation (listen) 29/09/1931 until 11/01/2015) was an
Swedish actress who was well-known for her attractive and striking physique.
She was famous for her role in the role of Sylvia in the Federico Fellini film
La Dolce Vita (1960). Ekberg was born in Sweden on the 29th September 1931. She
was the sixth child of eight. Anita worked as fashion model in her teens. As
per the requests by her mother, Ekberg entered Miss Malmo in 1950. This resulted
in her being selected for the Miss Sweden contest which she was crowned. Even
though she spoke very little English she travelled to the United States to
compete for the 1951 Miss Universe title (an unofficial pageant at that time,
the pageant officially became official in 1952). Ekberg wasn't the Miss
Universe winner, but she was one of six semi-finalists. The contestant did get
an agreement with Universal Studios as a starlet. Ekberg was a Universal
starletin which she was taught acting, dancing, and drama. She appeared in a
few scenes in The Mississippi Gambler (1953), Abbott and Costello Go to Mars
(1953) (playing a woman on Venus), Take Me to Town (1953), and The Golden Blade
(1953).
